چکیده

The utilization of Attenuated Total Reflectance – Fourier Transform Infrared (ATR-FTIR) spectroscopy for the characterization of pressure sensitive products is well established. Some recent advances in sensor technology have opened new application areas of ATR-FTIR spectrometry. One of them is monitoring of chemical reactions, which are of interest for pressure sensitive adhesive production. In this work, ATR-FTIR spectrometry was used for monitoring polymerizations of acrylic monomers. Initially, the ATR-FTIR probe was used for off-line monitoring of solution polymerizations. The obtained results were used to establish real-time in-situ monitoring strategies for more complex, heterogeneous systems such as emulsion or miniemulsion polymerizations. In all cases, the performance of ATR-FTIR spectroscopy was compared to traditional monitoring techniques (i.e. gravimetry, HNMR spectroscopy) and good agreement between the techniques was obtained. However, some limitations of this technique were also uncovered. Current results offer a basis for the development of ATR-FTIR spectroscopy as not only a monitoring tool, but also as a tool for process control.

A comparative study of polymerization lamps to determine the degree of cure of composites using infrared spectroscopy.

The aim of this study was to compare polymerization lamps of various technologies (halogen, high performance halogen, xenon, i.e. plasma arc, as well as diode lamps) to determine the degree of polymerization of composite probes using Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. To observe the light-induced curing reaction under a bracket, an attenuated total reflection (ATR)-FTIR was used. T...

Development and applications of a microfluidic reactor with multiple analytical probes.

We report the development of a versatile microfluidic (MF) reactor with multiple analytical probes, which can be used for (i) quantitative characterisation of molecular vibrational signatures of reactants or products, (ii) the localised real-time monitoring of temperature and (iii) site-specific measurements of pH of the reaction system. The analytical probes utilised for in situ reaction analy...

In situ ATR FTIR monitoring of the formation of functionalized mono- and multilayers on germanium substrate: from 7-octenyltrichlorosilane to 7-carboxylsilane.

The development and optimization of biomimetic surfaces required for biosensors and medical assays are made more efficient by quantitatively monitoring the surface chemical reactions in situ by means of attenuated total reflection (ATR) FTIR spectroscopy. single-beam-sample-reference (SBSR) ATR, as well as modulated excitation (ME), techniques have been applied to get physicochemical informatio...

Dynamic studies of molecular imprinting polymerizations

Mechanisms of interaction of a three-dimensional polymer with solutes are of interest in the development and function of synthetic biomimetic polymers. We have investigated the effects of template/monomer interactions and template concentration on conversion and polymerization rates of a molecularly imprinted polymer. Copolymers of 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA) and poly(ethylene glycol) di...

Development of a rapid Buffer-exchange system for time-resolved ATR-FTIR spectroscopy with the step-scan mode

Attenuated total reflectance (ATR)-FTIR spectroscopy has been widely used to probe protein structural changes under various stimuli, such as light absorption, voltage change, and ligand binding, in aqueous conditions. Time-resolved measurements require a trigger, which can be controlled electronically; therefore, light and voltage changes are suitable. Here we developed a novel, rapid buffer-ex...
